Easy Halloween Fuzzy Spider Craft for Kids
I never thought I would call a spider adorable, but these fuzzy pipe-cleaner spiders are just that!
This craft is so quick and easy to make, you’ll have a bunch of cute fuzzy spiders decorating your house in no time!
It’s perfect for Halloween!
You can watch the video to get the gist of how simple this craft is. But I’ve also listed the step-by-step instructions below.
You can find the materials at your local craft store, but i’ve also linked to them below for your convenience. These are Amazon links. As an Amazon Affiliate, I earn a small commission on purchases made through the links at no extra cost to you.
Materials Needed:
4 Black pipe cleaners (chenille stems or fuzzy sticks)
Googly eyes (optional)
scissors
Steps:
Cut two of the chenille stems in half.
Fold each of the cut stems in half.
Interlock them at their centers.
Interlock all of the folded stems together with two going in opposite directions.
Twist them all together at the center to ensure they hold together.
Hold the center (body) of the spider and spread out its eight legs.
Take another full chenille stem and repeatedly wrap it around the center to create a more substantial body.
Adjust the legs as needed. (Folding the ends down helps the spider stand up better.)
(You may want to rewatch the video starting at 2:34 to make better sense of the next few steps.)
9. Take one more full chenille stem and loop one end of it into a circle the diameter of the spider’s body.
10. Loop the rest of this stem through the end circle repeatedly until the entire stem is looped through the circle. (It’s kind of like you’re making a wreath crown for the spider.
11. Place the looped circle chenille stem onto the body of the spider, and gently press the spider up into the circle.
12. Feel free to glue on tiny googly eyes for added spookiness.
Option for large spider:
You can make a much larger version of this spider if you want. Simply use 6 chenille stems. Follow the same process for making the smaller spiders, but don’t cut any of the stems.
What to do with your fuzzy spiders.
Put them in a fake spider web (linked below) to decorate for Halloween. Their bendable legs make them quite easy to attach anywhere around the house.
Get some plastic flies for the spider to “trap” in its web. (linked below) Make it educational by talking about the food chain. (What does the spider eat and what eats the spider?)
Create a Halloween sensory bin and add the fuzzy spiders and plastic flies to it.
Have a preschooler use the fuzzy spiders to practice counting to 8 (touching one leg at a time).
Pretend your spider is Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web and find some juicy words to attach to its web.
