How to make the 3D paper rainbow:

Cut out and color the paper rainbow strips.

  1. Print the Rainbow Arc Template. Then cut out the strips. (This printable can be downloaded from the free resource library. Subscribe below to get the password.)

  2. You have two options for this step. You can use the strips as a guide for cutting colored construction paper, or you can color the strips to use for your paper rainbow. For extra saturation, try these washable paint sticks. Be sure to color both sides of each strip (the same color).

  3. Once you have the rainbow colored strips, stack them with the longest paper strip on the bottom, the second longest on top of that, and so on. Continue stacking the strips in order of length until you have the shortest strip on top.

Layer the rainbow paper strips biggest to smallest.

4.Align the rainbow strips of paper so that one edge of each strip is perfectly lined up with all the others. Staple this aligned end.

5. (Young kids may need help with this step.) Now you will start to make the 3D arc. Using the loose ends (which are not yet stapled), gather all of the loose edges of paper strips together. Start by grabbing the top paper and adding the second paper to it, then the third and so on until you have pinched together the loose edges of every layer of paper. The longer strips of paper will form an arc.

6. Staple these loose edges together. The shortest strip will form the bottom of the paper rainbow. The longest strip of paper forms the outer arc of the 3D rainbow.

7. Find a place to stand your 3D paper rainbow arc.
