Make Fabergé-style Eggs with Kids
Make a simple version of Faberge eggs (also known as Imperial eggs) with kids. Because this is a no-mess craft and uses durable materials, it is great to do with children as young as three. The end product, however, is beautiful enough to keep the interest of older crafters.
You can probably tell from the picture that we had a wide range of ages working together. We did this craft with a mix of kids ages 3-12. The youngest ones needed help with the washi tape, but the older kids could manage everything on their own.

Materials Needed:
white wooden or plastic craft eggs
thin washi tape in metallic or jewel tones (5 mm thickness)
gem stickers
cardboard egg carton
gold tempera paint (and paintbrush and dipping container)
reference photo of Imperial eggs (optional)
Steps:
Cut apart the cardboard egg carton in such a way that each little section can serve as a stand for a decorated egg. (see photo)
(To make this craft mess-free, skip this step of painting the cardboard stands.) Pour a nickel size amount of gold paint into a small dipping container (a clean yogurt cup works well). Dip the paintbrush into the paint and paint the outside of the cardboard stand. (Acrylic paint will also work, but tempera is washable.) Set the cardboard stand aside to dry while you continue the following steps.
Look at some pictures of Faberge eggs and notice how the gemstones are often spaced evenly or form repeating patterns.
Add strips of thin washi tape to the craft egg. Space them evenly around the egg. We found it easier to add shorter strips that would cover the length of one side of the egg at a time instead of using a long strip of tape to try and go all the way around the egg (top to bottom).
Next, add gem stickers in whatever pattern looks pleasing to you.
Place the decorated egg on the gold cardboard stand, and put it on display!
