Stained Glass Christmas Tree Craft

If you’ve tried our stained glass heart craft, then you’ll know how quickly this craft comes together.

You can use materials you probably already have on hand and quickly pull together a Christmas craft kids will have fun with.

I went into great detail on how to make this craft easy and successful in my post about the Stained Glass Heart.

We did a few things differently with this craft:

  • We used wax paper instead of parchment paper. Note: I don’t think the brownish, unbleached parchment paper will work for this.

  • We used a glue stick instead of painting with liquid glue.

  • I printed the tree outline on thick printer paper instead of printing and then tracing the shape onto black construction paper. (Scroll to the very bottom of this post to download our Christmas tree outline if you don’t want to design your own.)

Both crafts turned out looking great.

Because I already wrote a detailed explanation of this craft, I’m creating this post as a simple series of images with captions. (As we all know, a picture is worth a thousand words.) You can read the detailed explanation of the same kind of craft here.

Note: it can be hard to find tissue paper squares in craft stores, so I’ve linked to some below. You can of course cut out your own pieces of tissue paper from large sheets, but this can be tedious.

Supplies needed for the Stained Glass Christmas Tree craft: tissue paper, glue, wax or parchment paper, Christmas tree cutout (download our below).

Print out the Christmas tree outline and cut it out so that it is a hollow outline of a tree. You’ll need two printed and cut outlines.

Glue the tree outline to wax/parchment paper. Stick glue works just as well as liquid glue.

Glue tissue paper to the wax paper to fill the tree outline. Don’t worry about going over the edges.

Once your tree is full of tissue paper, you will glue the second tree outline directly on top of the first one.

Then you will carefully cut off the excess wax paper and any tissue paper that has gone over the edge. This may be a step for adults to help with.

Hang your tree in the window. We attached ours with scotch tape.

As you can see, the setup for this craft is minimal, but kids will have a fun time with it. (We’ve done this craft with kids ages 3-12.)

At the end of the craft, you’re left with a festive and beautiful decoration. (No matter how messy it got in the process.)

Be sure to download your printable below (or cut out your own).

Don’t forget to save and share this craft. The image below is pinnable. Thanks!
