Easy Beaded Corn Craft

Want to make a quick and easy fall craft with kids as a fun way to add to your Thanksgiving decor? Try this Easy Beaded Corn Craft. The ease of threading pony beads onto pipe cleaners means kids as young as three can participate. The fact that there’s no wrong way to order the bead colors makes this a fun and soothing craft where even the adults can enjoy being creative. (We did this craft with kids ranging from three years old up to twelve years old. Each of them enjoyed the beading.)

So gather your supplies and get beading.

Materials:

  • tan-colored pipe cleaners (Use 4 if making the small ear of corn, 8 to make the large ear.)

  • pony beads in a variety of colors (about 80 beads for the small ear, and 200 for the large ear)

  • jute ribbon or raffia (optional)

  • tray for each crafter (optional)

Steps:

  • Decide if you will be making the large or small ear of Indian corn.

  • For the small ear of corn: Lay the 4 pipe cleaners out like a star so they all overlap in the center. Twist the center a few times so the pipe cleaners stay connected at the middle. For the large ear of corn: Grab all 8 pipe cleaners in one hand and twist one end of them all together. This will be the twisted tip of the ear of corn.

  • Fan all pipe cleaners out to form a star.

  • Thread beads one at a time onto each pipe cleaner leaving about an inch and a half of empty pipe cleaner at the end. This will take about 10 beads for each strand of the small ear of corn and about 25 beads on each strand of the large ear.

  • When each strand of the Indian corn is beaded, gather all the loose ends of the pipe cleaners together, and twist them to form the “husk” of the corn.

  • (Optional) Tie on a jute ribbon or some raffia.

  • Display your beaded Indian corn as part of your fall decor and enjoy.

Tip: We had each kid work on a tray to help keep the beads contained as much as possible.
